Digital creative Lucy Williams has long been revered as a purveyor of good taste and a leader in the fashion industry. When she turned her well-trained eye from personal style to interior design, the result was no less considered. First featured on House & Garden's website in June 2022, the rooms in her west London house have provided ample inspiration and points of reference ever since.
Her sitting room is perhaps the most colourful and eye catching of all, with Farrow & Ball's ‘Yonder’ splashed across the walls, ceiling and bookcase. Reclaimed pocket doors close off the space from the rest of the house, cementing the room as a calming and cocooned environment.
In an episode of our video series, ‘On the Inside’, Lucy explains her choice of colour in this room. ‘This particular shade of blue feels very calming, whilst still having a nice energy to it.’ Layers of texture, pattern and print, help to make the blue feel warm, enveloping and welcoming, rather than overwhelming.
Lucy mixes heavier pieces of furniture, like the dark orange Maker & Son sofa, with lighter accessories, like the HAY paper pendant, to create balance in the room. The overall feel of the room is practical and relaxed. 'It's a place where people can put their feet up and not be too precious,’ explains Lucy.
From a third angle, the carrara marble fireplace takes centre stage. Charming little trinkets and pieces litter the mantlepiece, and the chimney breast is flanked with prints and a large canvas.
