Spin Forming Thickness Tolerances
With advancements in metal spinning technology and CNC spinning machines, Wenzel can now hold tighter metal spinning tolerances than ever before. However, metal spinning is not as exact as milling or machining. Wenzel Metal Spinning quotes a standard tolerance of +/- .060” unless otherwise specifically noted.
Certain circumstances and part configurations such as shape, material type, and thickness lend themselves to other metal spinning tolerances. When working with metal spinning, the flat metal forms over a male tool. This means no part can be smaller than the machined tool, and thus in circumstances of very tight tolerances we can work with a + .060”/ > -.030”.
Metal Spin Forming Thickness
During the metal spinning process, some amount of material thinning will occur. Unless otherwise noted Wenzel does not guarantee a finished material thickness.
G90 galvanized steel (ASTM653) is the best-galvanizedgal coating thickness for spinning and the industry standard for coating. For cosmetic applications, Wenzel offers galvanized steel that is very easy to paint or coat. Whatever your material or application may be, an experienced member of the Wenzel team will assist you in determining a starting metal thickness for your next project.
