New in: our edit of the best homewares from Swedish lifestyle brand Arket
The original concept for Swedish brand, Arket, was based on an idea presented by art historian Gregor Paulsson in 1919. Paulsson’s wish was for the design world to bridge the gap between art and functionality: to create ‘more beautiful everyday things.’ It is this approach that has formed the basis of Arket’s offering. And, judging by their recent homeware collection, we’d say “mission accomplished."
What we often think of as 'Nordic interiors', or 'Scandi minimalism', is also based on Paulsson’s new beauty standard for items. Simple, clean shapes and lines were to be set against neutral colour palettes that come together easily. Practicality and function were designed to be just as important as the aesthetics.

But what do Arket do well?
Arket's beautiful, everyday things are designed to last and be loved for a long time. We look to Arket for the 'extras'. Things that are designed to add a layer of something special: a little texture here, a splash of colour there. Quilts and eiderdowns, plant pots, tablecloths, napkins and rugs are all solid offerings from Arket- and small things can make a really big difference.
